Kachinas
Kachina dolls are life-like images or carvings called "TIHU" by the Hopi Indians of Arizona. These carved and painted figures are made of wood, usually the soft roots of the cottonwood tree. The figures are not idols or objects of worship but accurate images of of the live kachina dancers of Hopi traditions.

The Kachinas on this page were carved by Dwight Yazzie, who although he is Navajo, has carved his dolls in the Hopi Tradition. He has signed each carving and has written on it the Hopi name and a short explanation of its symbolism.
